General-purpose distribution transformers are rated for 600 volts and below and are specifically for installation in harsh environments where dust, moisture and corrosive contaminants are present. They are generally used for supplying appliance lighting, motorized machine and power loads from electrical distribution systems. They are available in standard ratings from 50 VA up to 750 kVA. Hammond shielded distribution transformers provide a copper electrostatic
grounded shield between the primary and secondary windings. The shield shunts most noise and transients to the ground path rather than passing them through to the secondary making the transformers ideal for commercial or electrical installations where electronic circuitry operating at low voltage DC is present and is very sensitive to ‘noise’.
